Host Ricky Sacks was joined by returning guests to the Last Word On Spurs in Troy Townsend, Richard Cracknell and Talia Coren, as we returned to discuss Tottenham Hotspur giving their top four hopes a huge boost with a stirring home victory over a disjointed Manchester City.
In a first half steeped in controversy, Spurs were calling for an early red card for Raheem Sterling following a stamp on the ankle of England teammate Dele Alli, for which he was eventually only booked.
City were then awarded a penalty when Serge Aurier fouled Sergio Aguero, only for Ilkay Gundogan to see his effort from 12 yards saved by Hugo Lloris after a lengthy wait to award the spot-kick while play continued.
City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko was sent off for a second bookable offence in the second period, and shortly afterwards Spurs took control as debutant Steven Bergwijn drove home a fine effort from the edge of the box.
Son Heung-min added a second eight minutes later when his low effort beat Ederson, as the hosts moved up to fifth, and four points outside of the Champions League places.
We also previewed Southampton to come in the FA Cup replay and what kind of team Jose Mourinho will select.

We also discussed Spurs’ need to bring in an alternative senior striker to Harry Kane before the window slams firmly shut.
We finally previewed Manchester City to come at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Saturday.

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by Lee McQueen along with Richard White MBE and Jamie Weir from Sky Sports as we reviewed the FA Cup draw against Southampton.
Sofiane Boufal’s late equaliser gave Southampton a fully-deserved FA Cup fourth-round replay against Tottenham after an entertaining encounter.
Saints’ manager Ralph Hasenhuttl and Spurs counterpart Jose Mourinho made FA Cup statements of intent by selecting strong line-ups – and their teams delivered a game high on quality, chances and passion. Spurs looked on their way into the fifth round just before the hour, when Son Heung-min crowned a superb break with a low finish from the excellent Giovani lo Celso’s pass.
Southampton, however, had a succession of chances to equalise, with man of the moment Danny Ings having a rare off day in front of goal and squandering several opportunities. Ings never let his head drop for a second and his tireless approach was rewarded when he set up Boufal for a thumping finish high past Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris with three minutes left.
We also discussed Steven Bergwijn still expecting to complete a transfer worth around €30M to Spurs during the upcoming week despite the commotion around his PSV departure.
Host Charlie Hawkins was joined by Ricky Sacks, Chris Cowlin and Jason McGovern in his farewell appearance on Last Word On Spurs, as we reviewed the victory against Norwich City.
We also previewed the FA Cup tie to come against Southampton and what kind of team Jose Mourinho will look to field.

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by Jason McGovern, Jamie Brown from the Daily Hotspur and debutant to the Last Word On Spurs in Anthoulla as we reviewed the narrow defeat to Liverpool.
Tottenham pushed them all the way and it might have been a different story had Son Heung-min or the substitute Giovani Lo Celso not fluffed their lines when wonderfully placed in the closing stages. The Lo Celso chance led José Mourinho to sink to his knees in disbelief. How had the midfielder missed the target when he had so much of it to aim for from Serge Aurier’s cross?
Spurs had entered the game in poor form and with a clutch of debilitating injuries, including the high-profile one to Harry Kane. They tried everything in tactical terms, they gave everything on a physical level and Mourinho was on solid ground when he argued that his team deserved something.
We also previewed Middlesbrough to come on Tuesday back in the FA Cup along with having a guess at what both the attendance and the result will be.

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by Lee McQueen, John from Lilywhite Rose and debutant Hugo for this Last Word On Spurs as we discussed Lucas Moura rescuing a replay for Spurs after Ashley Fletcher struck opener for Championship side in FA Cup third round clash.
More misery was piled on Jose Mourinho as Tottenham failed to beat Middlesbrough in the FA Cup. Spurs have been left with an unwanted replay and another fixture on an already-stacked calendar. Lucas Moura’s second half header levelled the game shortly after Ashley Fletcher caught the Spurs back line napping.
It leaves Mourinho again with more questions about his side than answers, as pressure starts ramping up on him and his ability to get the more out of the squad that let Mauricio Pochettino down earlier this season.
