‘Bergwijn’s Beauty’
Host Ricky Sacks was joined by returning guests to the Last Word On Spurs in Troy Townsend, Richard Cracknell and Talia Coren, as we returned to discuss Tottenham Hotspur giving their top four hopes a huge boost with a stirring home victory over a disjointed Manchester City.
In a first half steeped in controversy, Spurs were calling for an early red card for Raheem Sterling following a stamp on the ankle of England teammate Dele Alli, for which he was eventually only booked.
City were then awarded a penalty when Serge Aurier fouled Sergio Aguero, only for Ilkay Gundogan to see his effort from 12 yards saved by Hugo Lloris after a lengthy wait to award the spot-kick while play continued.
City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko was sent off for a second bookable offence in the second period, and shortly afterwards Spurs took control as debutant Steven Bergwijn drove home a fine effort from the edge of the box.
Son Heung-min added a second eight minutes later when his low effort beat Ederson, as the hosts moved up to fifth, and four points outside of the Champions League places.
We also previewed Southampton to come in the FA Cup replay and what kind of team Jose Mourinho will select.
