‘Identity Crisis’

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by Jason McGovern and returning guests to the Last Word On Spurs in Dan from YidVids and Ashley Watts as a brilliant goal from Danny Ings gave Southampton a narrow but deserved win over Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham. The Saints striker flicked the ball superbly over Toby Alderweireld before shooting past Paulo Gazzaniga for his ninth goal in his past 10 games. Spurs were unimpressive, with Jan Vertonghen missing their best chance from close range in the first half. Mourinho, who was booked late on, sees his team stay sixth in the table, while Southampton rise to 11th. Spurs striker Harry Kane was forced off with a leg injury just seconds after having a goal disallowed for offside in the second half.

The panel also previewed the FA Cup tie to come at the weekend away at Middlesbrough along with discussing the type of side that Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho may look to pick.

‘Defensive Deficiencies’

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by Jamie from the Daily Hotspur and John from Lilywhite Rose as the panel returned to review to the 2-2 draw against bottom of the table Norwich City. Harry Kane struck a late penalty to earn Tottenham a point at Carrow Road and deny Norwich a first Premier League victory in seven matches. Mario Vrancic opened the scoring with his first Premier League goal for the Canaries before they were denied a second when Teemu Pukki’s goal was ruled out for a marginal offside by the video assistant referee (VAR).

Spurs improved after the interval and Christian Eriksen drew them level with a stunning free-kick but Norwich retook the lead when Serge Aurier put through his own net. The visitors had their chances and Dele Alli’s neat finish was ruled out for offside, before Kane drew Christoph Zimmermann into a lunging challenge inside the area. The England striker sent Tim Krul the wrong way from the spot to secure a point for the north London side.

The panel also look ahead to Southampton to come on New Years Day in the Premier League.

Dele’s Christmas Cracker

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by Jason McGovern and Lee McQueen as Last Word On Spurs reviewed Tottenham renewed their pursuit of a place in the Premier League top four as they came from behind to beat Brighton.

The result lifts Spurs up to fifth in the table, three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, who lost 2-0 at home to Southampton later on Thursday. Adam Webster had given the visitors a richly deserved lead, heading in from Pascal Gross’ right-wing delivery towards the end of the first half. However, Spurs, who played at a pedestrian pace during the first period, raised their tempo after the interval to fight back. Harry Kane levelled matters with a right-foot shot into the bottom left corner after Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan had brilliantly parried his first effort and Dele Alli’s sublime lobbed finish then found the top left corner to complete the turnaround.

The panel also previewed Norwich City to come at the weekend for Jose Mourinho’s Spurs.

‘Toby Re-Signs’

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by Lee McQueen and Jamie from the Daily Hotspur as Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has ended speculation about his future by signing a new contract. The 30-year-old, who was due to be a free agent in the summer, has agreed terms on a three-and-a-half-year deal at the north London club. Alderweireld looked set to be leaving Spurs at the end of the current campaign as negotiations over a new deal had stalled and under Mauricio Pochettino there appeared to be little chance of them restarting. But the arrival of Jose Mourinho has brought about a change and the Belgium international will now stay until 2023.

‘Super Jan’s Late Show’

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by Richard Cracknell, Ricky Norwood and Talia Coren on this week’s Last Word On Spurs.

As Tottenham Hotpur showed their fortitude by withstanding a suffocating barrage from Wolves before powering to a scrappy victory, courtesy of a last-ditch winner from Jan Vertonghen. After two wonderful strikes from Lucas Moura and Adama Traoré and a frantic, physical to-and-fro by both teams in the dying moments, the Belgian grabbed the winner with a last-minute header in a game otherwise dominated by the home side.

We also discussed Spurs’ Champions League last-sixteen draw against RB Leipzig.
