‘Down And Out’ | Love Sport Radio

Host Charlie Hawkins was joined by Ricky Sacks and Jamie Brown from the Daily Hotspur as the Last Word On Spurs returned to Love Sport Radio for this week’s #SpursFansShow.

The German club – who were only formed 10 years ago – led 1-0 from the first leg in London and Marcel Sabitzer’s double at the Red Bull Arena put Leipzig in control. Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris should have done better for both goals – getting a hand to both the Leipzig captain’s 20-yard shot and near-post header. Emil Forsberg scored with his first touch after coming off the bench to give Leipzig a 4-0 aggregate win. Injury-hit Spurs never looked capable of mounting a comeback like the one against Ajax last season which took them to the final and will now finish the season without a trophy again. Jose Mourinho’s side – who have not won in six games in all competitions – will need to find some form if they are to be back in this tournament at all next season. They are seven points behind the top four in the Premier League.

The team also previewed Man Utd to come back in the Premier League on Sunday.

‘Mour Trouble’

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by debutant James Dickens along with returning guests to the Last Word On Spurs in Darren Altman and Talia Coren as the panel discussed Dele Alli’s penalty earning Spurs a 1-1 draw at Burnley but a third winless game saw them miss the chance to cut the gap to the top four to two points.

Spurs coming into the game on a run of four defeats in a row were perhaps fortunate to escape Turf Moor with a point after a lacklustre opening period during which the hosts deservedly took the lead through Chris Wood’s goal after a Hugo Lloris fumble (13).

Jose Mourinho made his feelings clear at the break by introducing Giovani Lo Celso and Lucas Moura, and within five minutes of the restart they were level Alli converted from the spot after Ben Mee had caught Erik Lamela (50), netting his 50th Premier League goal in the process.

Moments later Burnley were denied a penalty themselves when Davinson Sanchez barged into the back of Chris Wood and they missed a golden chance to restore their lead when substitute Matej Vydra shot straight at Lloris from close range.

We also discussed Jose Mourinho’s post-match comments on Tanguy Ndombele and previewed the club’s Champions League last-sixteen second leg tie to come against RB Leipzig on Tuesday.

‘A Dark Day’ | Love Sport Radio

Host Charlie Hawkins was joined by Ricky Sacks, Lee McQueen from the Last Word On Spurs and Jamie from the Daily Hotspur as the panel returned to Love Sport Radio.

Tottenham were dumped out of the FA Cup on penalties by Norwich after missing three spot-kicks in the shootout, losing 3-2 after a 1-1 draw in normal time. Spurs looked in full control of the tie when Jan Vertonghen (13) showed great determination to head home following a Giovani Lo Celso set piece.

However, roared on by 9,000 visiting fans, Norwich took advantage of Tottenham’s lack of urgency in the second half and equalised when Michel Vorm – who was making his first start since 2018 – fumbled a Kenny McLean effort and Josip Drmic bundled home to take the game to extra-time.

Both teams looked tired in the extra minutes, so penalties were needed to separate them. When McLean missed Norwich’s first penalty, Spurs were odds-on to progress but some woeful spot-kicks from Troy Parrott, Erik Lamela and Gedson Fernandes meant visiting Tim Krul was the hero for the visitors. To compound matters for Spurs, there were ugly scenes at full-time as Eric Dier entered the stands and was seen clashing with a supporter, who was having an altercation with Dier’s brother, according to Jose Mourinho.

The panel also previewed Burnley to come in the Premier League on Saturday.

‘Disastrous Defending’

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by Antony Costa, Jonny Blain and Habibullah Khan as the panel reflected on the defeat to Wolves in the Premier League as Raul Jimenez scored a smart winner as Wolves recovered to move above Tottenham in the Premier League and boost their hopes of earning a Champions League spot.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side trailed twice in north London before Jimenez latched on to Diogo Jota’s pass to finish with his left foot. Spurs first led when Steven Bergwijn poked in and then from Serge Aurier’s curling effort before the break. But Matt Doherty and Jota combined to bring Wolves level on both occasions.

The panel also previewed Spurs’ huge season-defining game it feels in the FA Cup against Norwich City on Wednesday.

‘Spurs Fall Short’

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by Ricky J Norwood, Emma Storey and George Achillea as we discussed the performance and result against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge along with a long-heated debate on Jose Mourinho’s style of play.

Chelsea struck a significant blow in the fight for the top four places in the Premier League with a fully deserved victory over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge. In a confrontation billed as a battle between Frank Lampard and his old mentor Jose Mourinho, Spurs could have leapfrogged Chelsea with victory but were outplayed and are now adrift by four points.

Spurs’ day could have been even worse as Giovani lo Celso should have been sent off for a dreadful second-half challenge on Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta. The video assistant referee decided against punishment, although officials in Stockley Park later admitted a mistake had been made and he should have been sent off. Mourinho’s side gave themselves late hope when Erik Lamela’s shot deflected in off Antonio Rudiger but in reality Spurs deserved nothing and Chelsea were worthy winners.

‘Son Rescues Spurs’

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by returning guest to the Last Word On Spurs in Abbi Summers along with Cenk from the Spurs Web and Spurs YouTuber Max Sloakes to discuss Tottenham Hotspur’s last-minute victory against Aston Villa.

This was not what Tottenham Hotspur expected when they appointed Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese is 20 games into his tenure and already four of them have now finished 3-2 after Son Heung-min condemned Aston Villa to defeat in injury time in the final act of a frantic, frenetic game.

Son’s strike was the match’s 41st shot, gaining Tottenham a win they may think they merited for a second-half onslaught where Pepe Reina, a man who frustrated Mourinho in a Champions League semi-final 13 years ago, seemed to be repeating the feat with a hat-trick of saves from the South Korean.

The panel also previewed Spurs’ Champions League last-sixteen first leg to come against RB Leipzig.

‘Clive Allen – Feature Show’

Host Ricky Sacks and Jason McGovern had the pleasure of being joined by Tottenham Hotspur legend Clive Allen.  Clive Allen is one of the finest goalscorers of his generation but arguably his biggest battle has been to prove himself the best in his own family. His remarkable 49-goal haul for Tottenham in the 1986-87 season still stands as a club-record which earned him the rare dual honour of Professional Footballers Association Player of the Year and Football Writers Association Player of the Year in addition to the First Division Golden Boot. That stunning achievement is the apotheosis of a career which began at Queens Park Rangers before becoming English footballs first million-pound teenager when signing for Arsenal in 1980. Yet, in one of the most mysterious transfers of modern times, Clive was sold to Crystal Palace without playing a game and went on to represent eight more clubs including a year in France with Bordeaux before a brief stint as an NFL kicker for the London Monarchs.
