‘Spurs Fight Back’

Host Richard Cracknell was joined by Lee McQueen, Chris Cowlin and Jason McGovern on this Last Word On Spurs.

Heung-Min Son and Gareth Bale completed a remarkable 2-1 comeback win for Tottenham against Southampton in Ryan Mason’s first game as interim boss, boosting their top-four hopes after Spurs supporters had earlier staged a protest against club chairman Daniel Levy.

A turbulent week for the club, which has already seen them sign up to and then exit the Super League amid fan outrage, and surprisingly sack head coach Jose Mourinho, will take another twist on Sunday in their Carabao Cup final against Manchester City, but against Southampton, the drama fell in their favour, with a late VAR call allowing Son to strike from the spot.

The visitors had bounced back from their FA Cup semi-final disappointment impressively to lead through Danny Ings’ header on 30 minutes but Spurs, who had been below their best in the first half, improved after the break and replied with Bale’s bending effort on the hour.

on thought he had completed the comeback when he swept home on 74 minutes but referee David Coote ruled it out after a VAR check, with Lucas Moura offside, however, the officials at Stockley Park judged in Spurs’ favour when Moussa Djenepo caught Sergio Reguilon just inside the box, allowing the South Korea forward to eventually find the net from 12 yards.

The winning start for 29-year-old Mason – the youngest manager in Premier League history – lifts Tottenham up to sixth, two points off the top four having played a game more than the teams around them, and they will head into their cup final on a positive note.

Jose Mourinho – Sacked

The Last Word On Spurs reacted to the sacking of Jose Mourinho along with the news of a potential European Super League in a crazy 24 hours for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

The Portuguese replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Spurs manager in November 2019 and guided the club to sixth in the Premier League last season.

They are currently seventh, having picked up two points from their past three league games, and were knocked out of the Europa League in March.  Spurs face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on 25 April.

On Sunday, Tottenham were one of six Premier League clubs to announce they were joining a new European Super League, but it is not related to Mourinho’s sacking. Mourinho’s coaching staff of Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have also been sacked.

This season, Mourinho – who previously managed Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Porto – suffered 10 league defeats in a single campaign for the first time in his managerial career.

No Premier League side has lost more points from winning positions this season than Spurs, who have dropped 20. Mourinho’s last game in charge was a 2-2 league draw at Everton on Friday.

Former Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason, who has been working with the club’s academy, will took first-team training on Monday.

‘Praying For Kane’

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by Richard Cracknell, Antony Costa and Jamie Brown from the Daily Hotspur on this Last Word On Spurs.

Harry Kane emphatically punished two defensive errors before suffering an ankle injury as Tottenham and Everton played out a thrilling 2-2 draw which did little for either sides’ European ambitions.

After an uneventful opening 27 minutes at Goodison Park, Michael Keane’s costly defensive header set up Kane to ruthlessly volley Spurs into the lead, but Everton hit back inside four minutes when Gylfi Sigurdsson converted a penalty after Sergio Reguilon had fouled James Rodriguez in the area.

Everton were superior in every department from there on and took a deserved lead shortly after the hour when Sigurdsson haunted his former club again with a clinical finish from Seamus Coleman’s cutback.

But just as Spurs had relinquished their first-half lead, the Toffees gifted Kane his second six minutes later when a defensive mix-up between Keane and Mason Holgate ricocheted the ball into the path of the England international, and he rifled an unstoppable volley into the top corner.

Everton could have snatched all three points at the death but substitute Josh King was thwarted by Hugo Lloris before Richarlison blazed the rebound over, though a late ankle injury to Kane was of greater concern to Spurs with just nine days to go until the Carabao Cup final.

The draw leaves Everton in eighth, six points outside the fourth and final Champions League spot, while Spurs remain a point and place ahead in seventh.

‘United Sink Spurs’

Host Richard Cracknell was joined by Lee McQueen, John Wenham from Lilywhite Rose and Chris Cowlin on this Last Word On Spurs.

Manchester United came from behind once again to win 3-1 at Tottenham and dent the hosts’ top-four hopes with just seven Premier League games remaining.

Edinson Cavani had a goal controversially disallowed on 33 minutes after VAR spotted a flailing arm from Scott McTominay on Heung-Min Son in the build-up,, while the South Korea forward himself put Spurs ahead before the break with a far-post finish from Lucas Moura’s centre (40).

United levelled early in the second half as Fred converted a few yards out after Cavani’s shot had been parried by Hugo Lloris into the Brazilian’s path (57).

The visitors went ahead as substitute Mason Greenwood’s brilliant ball was converted by the diving header of Cavani (79), and Greenwood rounded off a brilliant second-half performance for the visitors, smashing home after fantastic work from Paul Pogba to assist (90+6).

The result leaves Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham six points behind fourth-place West Ham with time running out to bring Champions League football back to the club next season.

‘Sloppy Spurs Punished’

Host Richard Cracknell was joined by Antony Costa, Jamie Brown from Daily Hotspur and Adam Sacks on this edition of the Last Word On Spurs.

Joe Willock’s late equaliser secured a deserved – and vital – 2-2 draw for Newcastle against Tottenham, with Spurs missing the chance to go fourth.

All eyes were on Newcastle after a dismal defeat to Brighton two weeks ago, but the international break seemed to breathe new life into the team as they deservedly went ahead when Joelinton (28) fired home.

But the lead was short-lived as Kane bundled in the equaliser less than two minutes later (30), before powering home a superb second not long after (34).

Much like the first-half goals, it was a short period towards the end of the game that ultimately decided the outcome. Kane spurned a golden chance to wrap up the three points and his hat-trick when he clipped the post, before Arsenal loanee Willock (86) found the net via the underside of the crossbar two minutes later.

Tottenham miss the chance to go into the top four, instead moving into fifth, two points behind Chelsea.

‘Spurs Show Response’

Host Richard Cracknell was joined by Lee McQueen, Jamie Brown from Daily Hotspur and Lee McQueen on this Last Word On Spurs.

Tottenham put a difficult week behind them as they breathed new life into their bid to secure European football next season with a 2-0 victory at Aston Villa on Super Sunday.

Jose Mourinho’s side, who were under pressure after defeat to north London rivals Arsenal last weekend and a Europa League exit at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb in midweek, took the lead midway through the first half thanks to Carlos Vinicius’ first Premier League goal.

Harry Kane, who partnered Vinicius in attack, put the smiles firmly back on Spurs’ faces, scoring from the penalty spot to seal an important three points after winning the penalty following a coming together with Matty Cash.

Victory sees Spurs, who ease the pressure off Mourinho, move above Everton and Liverpool into sixth, one point behind West Ham in fifth, and three behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

‘Deep Problems Within’

Host Richard Cracknell was joined by Jamie Brown from Daily Hotspur and Jason McGovern on this edition of the Last Word On Spurs.

Tottenham were sent crashing out of the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb, losing 3-0 after Mislav Orsic’s stunning hat-trick wiped out Spurs’ 2-0 lead from the first leg.

Harry Kane’s double last Thursday had put Tottenham in pole position to qualify for the quarter-finals, but they were made to pay for another horrible performance in Croatia.

Looking for a reaction after their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in Sunday’s north London derby, Spurs were tepid in the first half but kept their aggregate lead intact and were 45 minutes from a gritty path to the last eight.

But forward Orsic produced an inspired hat-trick. His opener (62) was a thunderous, curling effort before slotting home from Iyayi Atiemwen’s cross (82) to send the game into extra time. He then hammered home another superb effort in the added period (106) to produce one of the shocks of the round and send Spurs crashing out.

Tottenham were unable to reply to any of Orsic’s wonderful goals, despite Jose Mourinho using all of the attacking players at his disposal, capping another miserable evening and leaving questions marks over where the team now goes in the remainder of the season.

‘Spurs Go Hiding’

Host Ricky Sacks was joined by Lee McQueen, Antony Costa and John Wenham from Lilywhite Rose on this Last Word On Spurs.

Arsenal fought back to beat Tottenham 2-1 on Sunday – but players, managers, and pundits were split on the key decisions in the north London derby.

Ultimately, after a stunning Erik Lamela Rabona, Martin Odegaard’s goal and an Alexandre Lacazette penalty sealed a comeback victory for the Gunners, which hit Tottenham’s top-four hopes.

But that is only part of the story. After the final whistle, there was debate and discussion about whether Davinson Sanchez had actually fouled Lacazette for the decisive spot-kick, and whether Lamela was rightly awarded a second yellow card and sent off for throwing an arm into Kieran Tierney..
