Host Ricky Sacks is joined by TJ Ramini, Russ Williams and Ashmatic Via Spurs Kings TV as the set-piece problems to have sparked so much debate at Tottenham last season continued in their defeat to Bayern Munich on Saturday. While pre-season results may not go on to have much bearing on the Premier League campaign ahead, Ange Postecoglou’s side saw a familiar flaw exposed once again, albeit with the caveat that not the entirety of his first-choice backline were playing.

Spurs had got off to a dream start, Dejan Kulusevksi opening the scoring within 30 seconds after the Swede sparked a counter. He found Brennan Johnson, whose return ball fell behind the forward, though a fortunate deflection set it back into his path before poking the ball past Manuel Neuer.

The hosts made a typically explosive start but could not find a quick-fire second despite driving runs into the Bayern box from both Heung-min Son and Yves Bissouma. After falling behind early, the German giants started to develop something of a foothold and were level within 15 minutes when Dayot Upamecano turned in Mathys Tel’s header from close range, one parried back into danger by goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario following an in-swinging free-kick.

Former Arsenal star Serge Gnabry had been guilty of wasting chances but made the most of some lax defending to give Vincent Kompany’s side a quick-fire lead before Thomas Muller exploited Tottenham’s set-piece issue again by nodding in a third after another crossed free-kick. Postecoglou railed against the idea of appointing a set-piece coach when debate raged last season. Though surely unlikely to change his approach because of a friendly, doubts will continue until the Australian can find some kind of resolution to the problem.

The second-half brought a raft of changes and an increased tempo, though it was the familiar Kulusevski who got Spurs back into the game with an ice-cold finish following Lucas Bergvall’s cute pass, with Bayern having been caught out in their own half.

Eric Dier and Harry Kane, who were handed commemorative gifts by Ledley King before kick-off, both came on in the second-half as Bayern inflicted a second consecutive pre-season defeat on Spurs. Kane went close with one shot in his first game back at the club but did not get on the scoresheet as he bid a proper farewell following his move away last summer.

Host Richard Cracknell was joined by returning regular panellists to Last Word On Spurs in Lee McQueen, Patrick Tyrant and Jason McGovern as Tottenham slipped to their first defeat of pre-season as they were beaten 2-1 by Bayern Munich in front of a 67,000 sell-out crowd in Seoul.

Son Heung-min, James Maddison and summer signings Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall all featured for Spurs, who were outplayed by the Bundesliga giants despite the absence of Harry Kane. Gabriel Vidovic capitalised on a poor pass out from Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to give Bayern an early lead, and Leon Goretzka doubled their advantage after the break.

Pedro Porro’s 25-yard strike reduced the arrears but Spurs were unable to find an equaliser against Bayern, who also gave former Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha a second-half run out.Ange Postecoglou’s side are next in action on Saturday, 10 August, when they will face Bayern again at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium,

‘Son (손흥민) Stars For Spurs In Seoul • Team K League (K리그) 3-4 Tottenham • Post-Match Analysis Podcast’

Host Lee McQueen is joined by returning panellists Jason McGovern, Ricky Norwood and Tim Winstone via Spurs Song Sheet as Son Heung-min scored twice as Tottenham edged past a team of the best players from South Korea’s top flight to secure a 4-3 friendly win.

Dejan Kulusevski opened the scoring after 29 minutes before South Korea and Spurs captain Son made his mark on his homecoming in Seoul. He curled an effort into the top corner after 38 minutes and slotted home a Kulusevski assist to give his side a 3-0 lead by the break. But Team K League pulled two back in the second half after replacing their entire team at the break with Stanislav Iljutcenko netting twice within five minutes of the restart.

That prompted Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou to make changes and substitute Will Lankshear volleyed home a Timo Werner cross to give them a two-goal cushion. Oberdan responded for the hosts with nine minutes left to play but Spurs held on to seal victory, with James Maddison hitting the post in injury time. They are back in pre-season action on Saturday, when they take on Bayern Munich at 12:00 BST in Seoul.

‘Spurs’ Youth Shine In Japan! • Vissel Kobe 2-3 Tottenham (Friendly) | Post-Match Analysis Podcast’

Host Richard Cracknell is joined by co-host Lee McQueen and regular returning panellists in Jason McGovern and George Achillea as an impressive young and heavily rotated Tottenham side beat Japanese champions Vissel Kobe in Tokyo on Saturday.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have now made it three wins from as many games after victories against Hearts and QPR before Spurs embarked on their tour of Asia.

Spurs fell behind after Pape Matar Sarr’s intervention was intercepted by Yuya Osako, who fired the hosts in front. Pedro Porro would quickly level for the away side after brilliant work from Archie Gray and Dejan Kulusevski, before Heung-min Son put them ahead with a ruthless finish at the back post after the break.

The J-League side would level through forward Jean Patric’s strike, deflected off the covering Emerson Royal. Still, Spurs pushed for the winner to avoid a penalty shootout in the sweltering Tokyo heat and played some lovely incisive football, constantly going close as the game approached its end.

Young Mikey Moore would have the final say, tapping in Jamie Donley’s cross from the byline to continue his fine form this summer.
